Soaring to new heights

A young woman has found herself soaring to new heights after receiving care and support from Ranch Ehrlo Society.

Nineteen-year-old Jane* recently discharged from Ranch Ehrlo, and is pursuing her dreams of becoming a pilot.

Jane spent her last day in Regina bidding an emotional farewell to the house that became her home, and to the staff who became her family.

“Saying goodbye today was really sad,” she said. “We were all crying, and it was hard but the staff are all really excited and proud of me.”

Jane achieved many goals and reached great success during her time at the Ranch. The young girl who arrived at just 16 years old grew to become a young woman with hopes, dreams, and belief in herself.

While living at the Ranch, Jane learned how to deal with her depression, she found part-time employment, graduated high school, and with the help of staff, moved into her own apartment. Jane is now starting her next chapter, moving to Ontario to begin studies in Aviation Management at Algonquin College.

“The staff have motivated me to stick to my goals every step of the way,” she explained. “If it wasn’t for them, and it wasn’t for the Ranch, I would not be in a good place at all. It’s crazy how much they’ve helped me.”

In the three years that she’s lived at the Ranch, Jane said the one thing she’ll always remember is the relationships she had with the staff and the strong support they offered.

“The staff really do care. I appreciate them because they talked me out of a lot of bad things and they supported in me in many ways. I don’t know where I’d be without their help.”

“I’ll absolutely be staying in touch,” she said. “Many of them are like family.”

Jane is also the first recipient of the Dr. Geoff Pawson Education Scholarship.
