Ehrlo Sport Venture (ESV) is giving kids in the community even more opportunities to play.

ESV has joined forces with the City of Regina and the Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL) to present Community Plays Days at Mosaic Stadium.

The inaugural Community Play Day was held Saturday, June 29th, featuring free sports activities and play opportunities for children and youth at Mosaic.

“This is something I’ve wanted to do for the last couple of years,” said Gloria Patrick, ESV manager. “Sport Venture is here, in the community engaging families in our leagues and our lending library but it’s really important for us to take the next step so that we’re going out and making concerted efforts to engage with the broader community.”

“Community Play Days aligns with our vision and mission,” she continued. “It’s about providing a free opportunity for every child to participate in play, interact with equipment, and engage in activities with positive mentors.”

Unlike ESV sports leagues, the Community Play Days are a drop-in program. Gloria estimates upwards of 200 children, families, volunteers, and staff participated in the first Community Play Days but said that number is expected to grow as the event continues.

“We invited all of our previous families who have been engaged with Sport Venture the past few years and we also engaged the community as well, but I anticipate this is only going to grow as we continue through the summer months.”

The theme for the first Community Play Day was around various sporting activities. A sports bingo card was given to participants, and when they completed each play station their cards were stamped, and at the end, entered into a draw.

Gloria is working with other partners and stakeholders for upcoming Community Play Days, one Community Fair themed and another football focused event in collaboration with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Alumni. A baseball-themed day is scheduled for August 24th and will feature ESV’s loyal supporter, the Jays Care Foundation.

The Jays Care Foundation, a charitable arm of the Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Club, contributes significant funding and training to the Ehrlo Baseball Rookie League (EBRL) each year. Several of their members will visit Regina for the first time in August, attending the EBRL windup and bringing people and fun activities to the Community Play Day.

“This really is a great program because it aligns so well with what we do in the community,” said Gloria. “Community Play Days will allow us to reach a broader audience, engage them, and provide opportunity for family fun and play at Mosaic.”

“Just come, play, and interact with us.”

The upcoming Community Play Days will be held on July 27th, August 24th, and September 21st from 6 – 8 p.m.  No need to pre-register, just show up to Mosaic Stadium (enter through the southwest ramp) and be ready to play!
