The celebration for Ehrlo Sport Venture’s Outdoor Hockey League’s 30th anniversary was a complete success!

Over 100 people came to the reception at the Queensbury ballroom. The guests included OHL volunteers, participants, generous sponsors, supporters, and friends of the OHL.

The Ehrlo Sport Venture was founded by Russ Matthews, a former Ranch Ehrlo teacher. His class at Coronation Park school decided to collect used hockey equipment for youth facing financial barriers to playing, and the OHL was born.

The league evolved into the Sport Venture’s multi-league program it is today. There is now the soccer league, Monday Night Football league, basketball league, and the Baseball Rookie League in partnership with Jays Care.

The master of ceremonies for the evening was Gloria Patrick, current manager of Sport Venture.

Three former managers of Sport Venture were in attendance: Russ, Laura Logan, and Amanda McConnell.

The keynote speaker was Regina Pats CEO Gord Pritchard who gave an inspirational presentation on the positive impact on sports and his experience volunteering for the OHL.

Former Ranch Ehrlo employee and longtime OHL volunteer coach Trent Wotherspoon told a touching story of new Canadians experiencing hockey for the first time.

Leroy Larsen explained the Regina Optimist clubs’ stick donation program. Each year, the four Optimist clubs in Regina donate over 400 sticks!

After the reception, there was a family skate on the Regina Pats’ rink! The Sport Venture library brought skates and equipment for people to use if they didn’t have their own.

The spectacular evening was the perfect opportunity to reflect on the past and plan for the future!
