Ehrlo Sport Venture’s longest-running league, the Outdoor Hockey League (OHL) kicked off its 31st season last Saturday with 375 registered players, a record number for the league!
Each year, hundreds of kids get involved with hockey, a traditionally difficult sport to access. Sport Venture removes the barriers to participation by providing equipment and our league is completely free! Players get equal time on the ice regardless of skill level.
“We can run this league and all our programs thanks to community partners who support the work we do,” stated Gloria Patrick, Ehrlo Sport Venture manager. “The kick-off was for our families and players, but it also honours our partners in the community that make all of this possible.”
Last year, Brandt donated $50,000 to the OHL, allowing even more Regina youth to play the sport they love. Sport Venture unveiled a sign on the rink’s shack to celebrate the partnership. Signs will be going up in all eight rinks OHL plays.
Natalie Huber, Ranch Ehrlo Society CEO, and Malcolm Neill, Ranch Ehrlo vice-president of strategy and organizational effectiveness, along with Gord Pritchard, Regina Pats CEO, and players Aaron Krestanowich and Cole Temple were in attendance for the unveiling and skated on the ice engaging with the OHL players.
The day was capped off with warm bowls of chili to enjoy.
“Thanks to all our staff, volunteers, players, and families who made this special day one to remember! We want to acknowledge the Regina Pats, Brandt, All Brite Signs, and the City of Regina for their support and partnership,” Gloria concluded.
The league runs from January to March, is open to all youth aged six to 16, and runs at eight rinks throughout the city.
