Forty of our Outdoor Hockey League (OHL) participants were invited to join the FROST Regina festival to celebrate Hockey Night on Wascana.

The OHL players took to the rink on Wascana Lake and were engaged in play when the blast of a horn got their attention!

The entire Regina Pats team had arrived on their bus to play with the OHL!

Nathan Clearihue, whose son plays on the OHL, said there was an explosion of excitement.

“As soon as the Pats started coming down to the ice, the youth kind of formed a line and started chanting ‘Go Pats, Go, Go Pats, Go’. Then the Pats players skated by them and boom they were playing hockey together,” said Nathan.

The youth were thrilled to play with the Pats.

This is the second year in a row the OHL played at Frost Regina, but it’s the first time they were joined by the Western Hockey League (WHL) team.

Pulling off this big of a surprise took a lot of planning and coordination with Wascana Centre, the Provincial Capital Commission, and the Regina Pats Hockey Club.

Gloria Patrick, Ehrlo Sport Venture manager, said, “Collaborating with community embodies the spirit of sport and has allowed us to create extraordinary memories for our players and families.”

“These partnerships are important for us to foster because they enable us to offer special programming experiences that our players wouldn’t otherwise have – it’s truly remarkable!”, she said.
