Indigenous hockey legends share their voice and influence

Ehrlo Sport Venture (ESV) was grateful to participate in the Western Canada Professional Hockey Foundation (WCPHS) event “Celebrating Indigenous Hockey Legends” held on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at the Conexus Arts Centre in Regina.

The event brought people together in our community to share, listen, and learn. The evening began with a meal, followed by two hot stove sessions with some incredible Indigenous hockey legends. There were also live and silent auctions and a 50/50 draw where proceeds gathered supported the Ehrlo Outdoor Hockey league, KidSport, and The Circle Project.

Garth Malarchuck, chairman of the WCPHS explained, “It’s a historic event. Nothing has been done before in celebrating Indigenous hockey players on this day.”

“It’s an opportunity to honour those Indigenous hockey legends, as well as to give back,” he added.

The National Day of Truth and Reconciliation calls us to listen, to learn, and to walk together toward healing and reconciliation.

“At Sport Venture, we are committed to creating spaces where every child feels safe, included, and valued,” said Gloria Patrick, manager of ESV. “We recognize the importance of this day and strive to build a future grounded in respect, understanding, and reconciliation.”

We’ll soon be sharing an update on social media celebrating the total donations raised in support of Sport Venture.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who planned, attended, and supported this meaningful event.
