The Sport Venture team came together to recognize its incredible volunteers, expressing heartfelt gratitude for their time, talents, and dedication to supporting kids on the ice and in the field.
Ehrlo Sport Venture (ESV) held its second annual volunteer reception on April 27th, celebrating the dedication and impact of its volunteers. Ninety-nine volunteers were invited to the event, coming together to be recognized for their contributions and to connect with others who share a common passion for sport and commitment to supporting young athletes.
Among the special guests were members of the Tim Hortons owner groups, who were honoured with plaques in recognition of their generous support through the annual Tim Hortons Holiday Smile Cookie Campaign.
While ESV regularly shows appreciation for its volunteers—through small gifts and words of gratitude — the volunteer reception is a unique opportunity to devote time specifically to recognizing their contributions and honouring their commitment.
“To set aside a dedicated time where we can bring them together in a meaningful way is special,” said Gloria Patrick, program manager. “It’s truly a time that is about them. When they come to our programs it’s about our players, it’s about our families, and it’s about advancing the love of sport. This event is different because it’s an intentional event that we plan where we get to honour our volunteers – to recognize them and celebrate them.”
The formal program was intentionally kept brief to provide opportunity for volunteers to meet each other and enjoy a relaxed afternoon of conversation and connection. Guests were presented with certificates and heard a powerful testimonial from a parent coach about the real-life impact of Sport Venture programs.
“Hearing her speak about how Sport Venture has benefitted her family was quite moving,” said Gloria. “It was really important to have her speak and share a message of hope and opportunity.”
Eight-year-old Alex also took the chance to share his thoughts and pride for Sport Venture and the work of its staff and volunteers.
“I love Sport Ventures (sic) because they help you learn the sports but also, they’re always ready to help. I’m proud to say I love Sport Ventures.”
Bringing the group together highlighted the power of people, said Gloria, showing what a committed and dedicated community can achieve to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
“The scope and scale of what we’re able to achieve and all of the pieces that come together to make our programs run smoothly and successful is because of our volunteers,” she said. “It’s really phenomenal when you think about all of the people that we’ve been able to engage, who want to give back, and are consistently showing up for us and the kids.”
The volunteer group is as diverse as it is dedicated, bringing together people from all walks of life — from moms and dads to the CEO of the Regina Pats — united by a common love of sport and a shared commitment to supporting youth in the community. In this group, titles hold no weight and economic status isn't a measure of worth; what matters most is the desire to make a difference.
“There’s always a place for people in our program, whether that’s a player or a volunteer,” said Gloria. “Everyone has value.”
