Ranch Ehrlo had the opportunity to showcase its latest community services and connect with families from across the province at this year’s Shaping Inclusive Community Conference.
The event, hosted by SaskAbilities, brought together families and organizations from across Saskatchewan and Western Canada to share ideas and expertise in support of individuals experiencing disability and their families.
The conference welcomed more than 500 attendees each day and featured 27 tradeshow exhibitors, including Ranch Ehrlo, which highlighted its newest community service: Community Living Supports (CLS).
“The response was incredible – all 150 of our brochures were picked up, families shared their excitement, and we left proud to be addressing critical gaps in service; a commitment that Ranch Ehrlo has upheld since 1966,” said Jane Powell, director of clinical and community living services.
Jane attended the event to deepen her understanding of family needs, connect with like-minded organizations, and share information about CLS’s three programs: Integrated Supported Living (ISL), Respite Home, and Respite Care.
“It was a wonderful chance to connect with families, service providers, and community partners who share the same passion for supporting individuals experiencing disability,” she shared. “The feedback was positive. People really appreciated our focus on person-centred, flexible, and inclusive support.”
Throughout the event, Jane fielded questions about eligibility, staffing, and the referral process for the new programs. Many conversations underscored the importance of flexible, individualized, and accessible respite and supportive living options, particularly as young people transition from child to adult services.
“Hearing these priorities firsthand from families and community members gave me even more clarity about where our efforts can make the biggest difference,” explained Jane. “I was encouraged by how many families expressed excitement about our programs. Several mentioned that these kinds of supports have been needed for a long time, and it made me really proud to work at the Ranch where we are able to meet gaps in respite and supportive living options.”
“The Ranch has a long history of developing programs in response to community needs, and it’s exciting to see that tradition continuing through ISL and our new respite initiatives,” she continued. ”Hearing from families confirmed that we’re on the right track.”
Looking ahead, Jane hopes to build on the connections made at the conference and explore new collaborative opportunities. Plans are also underway for CLS to participate in more provincial and national conferences to continue learning, growing, and sharing about its programs.
