Ehrlo Sport Venture is being celebrated across the community, with local media helping shine a light on the Outdoor Hockey League (OHL) and the powerful opportunity it creates for children to play, discover, and develop a lifelong love of hockey.
Sport Venture Manager Gloria Patrick recently joined CJME’s The Green Zone Replay (listen at minute 14:45) to share the impact and reach of the league. Last season alone, the OHL dressed 466 players, with anticipation to welcome even more children to the ice in 2025–26.
“It’s so much more than sport. We really provide a space for kids to build their confidence, to develop life and social skills, and to feel like they belong. We want every kid to feel like they have an opportunity to try, to build courage, and to have a chance,” Gloria Patrick explained on CJME.
Gloria’s passion for Sport Venture and her pride in the long-standing league seeped through the airwaves as she recognized the incredible supporters who make the work possible. Their collective efforts reinforce a simple truth: it takes a village to raise an athlete, and an entire community to create access to opportunity.
“I think that anyone who gets involved with Sport Venture quickly sees the impact of sport and what we do here. We have a small crew, but we rely heavily on volunteers, community partners, and organizations for support and when you see it unfold – whether it’s on the ice, on the field, or on the diamond – it really speaks to your heart,” explained Gloria.
That sense of collective effort was also celebrated on the broadcast of CTV Regina’s Indigenous Circle, which highlighted the First Shift program. This season, 46 Indigenous hockey players from the OHL were gifted their very own sticks, skates, and equipment thanks to a powerful collaboration between Sport Venture, OneHoop, Innovation Federal Credit Union, Hockey Regina, and a team of community-minded partners.
The success of Ehrlo Sport Venture is rooted in people coming together each playing a role in breaking down barriers to sport. By spreading the word and strengthening awareness, the community ensures that families know this opportunity exists, and that access to sport is possible, even when it may feel out of reach.
“We are very fortunate,” Gloria said of the partnerships. “We have wonderful support from local businesses and organizations who really understand the power of sport and understand what it takes to run a program like ours.”
Together, the community is doing more than building hockey players – it’s building belonging, confidence, and hope for the next generation.
The OHL is Sport Venture’s longest running league – providing youth across Regina the opportunity to play for more than 30 years. Like all Sport Venture leagues, the OHL provides every child a chance to play – no matter their financial background, social status, or skill level.
Registration for the 2025-26 OHL season is still open for unserved children ages six to 16. The season will run from January 12 through March 8 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 6 p .m. and 7 p.m., at outdoor rinks throughout Regina.
