Ehrlo Housing held its annual tenant appreciation barbecue yesterday, and it was a great success.

Ehrlo Housing operates as part of Ranch Ehrlo Society’s community services and its mandate is to provide affordable housing to low-income families, individuals with enduring mental health conditions, and young people transitioning from care.

Tenants from McEwan Manor and Chaz Court joined the tenants at the Lakeshore Village to enjoy the food and camaraderie.

The weather was perfect, and the smell of the delicious hamburgers and hot dogs filled the air.

Dave Shand, manager of housing was the chef extraordinaire, while Sherri McLaren (housing caretaker) and Tyler Splett (facilities maintenance worker) served the guests.

Tyler said, “It’s nice we can do this for the tenants. I love this event. It’s lots of fun for everyone. I’m getting paid today to have fun. It’s a pretty awesome job.”

Shelley Sayer, director of housing, said, “Hosting a tenant appreciation BBQ for our tenants is our way of saying, ‘thank you for renting with us!’ It really does give us an opportunity to personally thank our people, create a sense of community and support, and for our tenants to get to know each other a little better in a casual, fun environment!”

She said she looks forward to this day every year, where everyone can eat, play, and talk together in celebration of summer and enjoy friendly smiles and good company.

One tenant said she loves the annual barbecue. “They do a good job, and it’s lots of fun. It’s nice to get to know the tenants in the other buildings,” she smiled.
