Connecting people through music, art

Ranch participants are finding creative ways to connect with their communities through music and art.

Art Facilitator Dustin Ritter is helping our participants explore their passion for the arts by creating portraits of the musicians they sing along to.

“Music and art are two of the best ways to connect with people,” said Dustin. “Since we started the music program last year, these portraits have been a great way to learn about the artists the participants are listening to and also teach them a little about music history.”

Participants are excited to share their work with the broader community while building capacity for their art program. They’ve partnered with Black Dog Art Supply in Regina to host a music-themed art show and silent auction.

The exhibit features original pieces created using a range of mediums – graphite, charcoal, posca paint markers, bingo dabbers, and tie-dye. Through these materials, participants have learned a variety of artistic techniques such as shading, pointillism, and cross-hatching, resulting in a beautiful collection of portraits celebrating iconic musicians.

The art show and silent auction is now open for viewing at Black Dog Art Supplies and will run until December 15. Those interested in bidding can visit the location in person. Winning bidders will be contacted directly, and payments will be arranged via e-transfer.

All proceeds from the auction will go toward purchasing new supplies to support the art program.
