Ehrlo Sport Venture is operating a summer Autism Camp in the city of Regina for the third consecutive year.
The program launched in 2012 as a joint initiative between Ranch Ehrlo’s Sport Venture program and the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region (RQHR).
The recreation-based camp has filled to maximum capacity with 15 campers per week for an eight week period spanning July 2nd through August 22nd.
“The response has been very positive,” said Laura Logan, manager of Ehrlo Sport Venture. “The health region used to allow children to attend as many times as they wanted, but we now have a two-week limit for registrations because of high program demand.”
“This camp is the highlight of summer; we love to see how the campers grow each year and we enjoy strengthening our relationships with the families, staff, and RQHR Autism Centre.”
The Autism Camp supports children’s learning and development through recreational activities, structured play, and education. Lessons in social integration and concepts are emphasized and inherited through experiences in social settings at the playground, in the classroom, and in the community.
“Some of these children may be going to school in the fall and have had little to no opportunity to have structured play,” Laura explained. “This camp allows the children the opportunity to practice social skills in a safe environment while exploring recreational activities within our community.”
