Sociology class - 13 steps of  brainwashing

There are a lot of things I remember about university, but what sticks out most is memorizing the 13 steps of brainwashing for a Sociology class.  I have to admit, my boyfriend at the time never quite looked at me the same after that.

I don’t know if mind control or subliminal messages are real, but there are a lot of factors that influence us on an unconscious level every day.  Think about it for a second and you’ll see all kinds of examples from work, home, and just life in general.  A chaotic environment is unsettling and can add tension or drama to a group.  Seeing someone drinking a nice, cool glass of water may make you realize how thirsty you are.  Someone saying “you look good in that colour” may influence your choices the next time you go out shopping.

Social nourishment and environmental support at Ranch Ehrlo

The same applies with the youth and adults we work with.  Ranch Ehrlo’s philosophy of environmental support and nourishment helps to create a positive environment by providing structure and safety in the context of warm, nurturing, and accepting surroundings.  The environment sets the tone for healing and therapeutic treatment.
