Ehrlo Sport Venture wrapped up the 2014/15 Outdoor Hockey League (OHL) season this past weekend with a two-day year-end tournament in the town of Pilot Butte.

The bantam tournament was held on Saturday, March 7th with players from McMurchy, Rosemont, Eastview, Glen Elm, Cathedral and Core Ritchie battling it out on the ice. After an impressive showdown, Glen Elm took home the Bantam tournament title.

On March 8th two pools of players faced off; McMurchy Park, Glen Elm 1, Rosemont and Cathedral in the morning and Imperial, Grassick, Lakeview, Core Ritchie, and Glen Elm 2 in the afternoon. After a solid effort made by all teams, McMurchy came out ahead with the morning win while Imperial took home the afternoon title.

Bantam player Jacob Labelle and Atom players Brynn Endicott and Kaleb Diana took home this year’s Kellen Cavanagh Memorial Awards.

“The feedback we got from players and coaches was great,” Sport Venture manager Amanda McConnell said of the tournament. “Everyone was very happy with the set-up at the Pilot Butte rink and the rink itself was more than generous to us (donating two days of ice time, the hall and subsidized meals).

This year, 344 boys and girls age eight to 18 participated in the OHL. Over 125 players and coaches turned out for the tournament on Saturday, and more than 175 made it out on Sunday.

This season was a busy and eventful one for the OHL and its players. A special visit was made by former NHL player Fred Saskamoose, the league was featured on CTV Live Regina, and Sport Venture partnered with the Regina Pats for an equipment drive and special OHL intermission skate.

Congratulations to all of the players, and a big thank you to the city of Regina, town of Pilot Butte, and the coaches, sponsors, supporters, volunteers, and staff who helped to make the 2014/2015 OHL season a success.

“It is through the hard work of all of these people, combined with a lot of heart, that helps make the OHL the special league that it is,” said Amanda.

Sport Venture is also looking for any volunteers who may be interested in helping sort hockey equipment. All of the gear has been returned and must be sorted and sent out to be washed. Any amount of volunteering would be greatly appreciated!
