Trudy BoschHopefully you know what a Goonie is. If you don’t this blog might not be for you. But if you do, then you can relate to the important life lessons that the 80's movie teaches us - lessons that can be shared not only with our clients but with our staff and the community.

Be nice to everyone. Even if someone seems scary, looks can be deceiving.
When Sloth is introduced in the movie, he is terrifying - an angry giant who is chained up - yikes! But his looks are deceiving. With just a chocolate bar, Chunk extended a sign of friendship and makes an ally and friend that saves the Goonies. (A bonus lesson – always carry chocolate.)

Work together as a team.
Would Mikey and the gang have been able to find a treasure pirate ship and evade a family of criminals if they had not worked together to figure out clues and watch for booby traps? Of course not. Without the team, they wouldn’t have even been able to understand the treasure map and they would have all lost their homes.

A piano lessons never killed anyone… But skipping a lesson might!
Thanks to Andy’s childhood piano lessons the kids are alive. She is able to play the skeletal organ and open the doors to safety. As a side note, it’s also been said that music has less lethal side effects like improved academic skills and increased self-esteem.

You are good enough.
Probably the biggest life lesson is that everyone at some time in their lives feels like an outsider, but no matter what, you don’t have to pretend to be something you’re not. Being a Goonie is not something to look down on. It just means that you march to the beat of your own drum, you don’t give up, and you stick together!
