The Outdoor Hockey League (OHL) is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. From its humble beginnings in a Regina classroom to a league which is now spread across Saskatchewan, the OHL allows all youth the opportunity to play hockey by removing the financial barriers. Over the next several weeks we will be highlighting stories from volunteers, former players, and the media over the past 20 years. Please tune in weekly for a little piece of hockey history.
Playing indoors is a huge opportunity for kids who have never experienced hockey anywhere but on an outdoor community rink.
In 2009 The Cooperators teamed with the OHL to allow the league to play some of it's games indoors in the Cooperator Centre. There ice time donation includes two hours per week plus additional larger blocks of ice time for other activities such as coach development.
The partnership with Cooperators changed the OHL league in terms of family engagement. The indoor viewing area is a comfortable, warm space for families to watch their children play hockey.
