Schaller students participated in Schaller Camps for Fun with a basketball camp held at the University of Regina (U of R) on March 25th.
The camps are made possible by partnership with the U of R and with the involvement of education, administration, and support staff from Schaller School.
Schaller Camps for Fun was developed to introduce sport and recreation to youth while promoting healthy, active lifestyles, said Bruce Thompson, Camps’ creator and Schaller instructor.
“It’s not about being the best, it’s about trying your best,” he said from the U of R gymnasium Tuesday afternoon. “To be in a facility like this – the kids love it and think it’s absolutely fantastic.”
All Schaller students participate in the camps, which include volleyball, soccer, basketball, baseball, and fun and fitness.
“It’s really important to expose these kids to new experiences and the opportunity to participate, whether it’s in a classroom or the gym,” said Bruce. “A lot of these kids have never been to a sports camp before so they take it seriously and enjoy it.”
“It’s just a fun atmosphere and something the kids and our staff really like to do,” he added.
Schaller Camps for Fun launched last year, and hosts a variety of university athletes to lead drills, skills testing, and practice.
