At Ranch Ehrlo, we have achieved a reputation for our service excellence and that is something we don’t take lightly. We never stop trying to better ourselves. We believe in constantly making improvements to our services.
Like our late founder Dr. Geoff Pawson once said, “The work of the Ranch is never done.”
With that in mind, the agency has recently begun implementing the CARE model to our existing framework. This is a model that fits well with our current practice here at the Ranch.
What exactly is CARE?
CARE, Children And Residential Experiences: Creating Conditions for Change, is a multi-level model developed by Cornell University that improves services for children in out-of-home care through six practice principles:
- Developmentally focused
- Family involved
- Relationship based
- Trauma informed
- Competence centered
- Ecologically oriented
The goal of implementing this model is to establish a clear framework based on how people change, grow, and develop. This framework will provide consistency in message and approach throughout all areas of the Ranch.
Anticipated results
Implementation of CARE in other residential programs has shown positive results. We hope by implementing it here we will also see these improvements, such as better outcomes for children, youth, adults, and families.
Other anticipated results include calmer environments (for staff and youth), fewer confrontations, and happier and more satisfied staff.
Now what
This implementation is a marathon, not a sprint. We have over 800 employees that need to be consulted and trained in this new model. It will take years to fully reap all the benefits of this new model but in the meantime, we are all building to a common understanding that will benefit all levels of the organization, and most importantly, our clients.
