Ranch Ehrlo Society knows how important the lives of children and youth are, and recently did its part to help save babies’ lives.
The Ehrlo Early Learning Centre (EELC) and Avant-Garde College recently held fundraisers for the Z99 Radioathon in support of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
“It’s a cause that hit close to home,” said Karin Duff, director of EELC. “Some of our staff and clients have had children of their own in the neonatal unit.”
EELC began contributing to the cause in 2003 with a simple bake sale at W.F. Ready. Fast forward 12 years, and the fundraiser has grown to become a three-day, school-wide bake sale and popcorn sale.
This year, W.F. Ready raised $1,758 for the Radioathon and inspired the Gladys McDonald, Imperial, and Ruth Pawson centers to get involved. The Wilfred Walker centre also held a bake sale, raising a total of $339.75 for the cause.
Ranch Ehrlo’s Avant-Garde beauty college joined forces with the Canadian Western Bank and Beer Bros Gastropub & Deli to raise thousands of dollars for the Regina NICU.
“We are honoured to be a part of this special event to help raise money for the NICU and to be able to make a difference in babies’ lives,” said Kelsey Horn, from Avant-Garde.
Avant-Garde staff and students got together to hold their annual Shaving Heads to Save Babies fundraiser on Thursday, March 19th. People came out in support of the cause, as students shaved 20 heads (including four brave women) and raised over $4,000.
“At the last minute a student shaved her own head to get more pledges,” said Kelsey. “We thank everyone for being such a huge part of making this year’s Shaving Heads to Save Babies such a success.”
This year marked the 28th year of the Z99 Radioathon which broadcasts live from the Cornwall Centre for 36 hours raising money to purchase equipment for the NICU at the Regina Hospital.
