The .gif: it’s a polarizing entity. Does it begin with a soft g sound, like a certain peanut butter brand chosen by choosy moms? Or is it pronounced with a hard g, which would make it stand alone and have no concerns over being confused with a spreadable breakfast (lunch, or dinner) delicacy?

The internet has debated for as long as .gifs have existed, and we may never come to an agreement. (For the record, though, .gif creator Steve Wilhite was quoted as saying, ““The Oxford English Dictionary accepts both pronunciations. They are wrong. It is a soft ‘G,’ pronounced ‘jif.’ End of story.”)

We’re not so sure, Steve, but while we’re mulling it over, enjoy these .gifs related to our work here at Ranch Ehrlo!
