If you could make a difference in someone’s life, would you?
Rabiya Abdulkadir began volunteering for the Ranch Ehrlo Society to help make a difference; to show children and youth that people do care about them and that they are important members of our community. But Rabiya said the youth have taught her more, showing her true courage, kindness, and inspiration.
Rabiya first began volunteering with Ehrlo Sport Venture in January 2013, working in the Crafts Club for autistic children and youth. In April 2013, Rabiya brought her experience and mentorship to Jordan House, working with youth at the Pilot Butte campus.
“It’s so wonderful when I see the children and youth smile,” she said. “There are specific moments here that will stay with me forever….these young children have some of the greatest, most giving hearts.”
She said volunteers give Ranch Ehrlo children and youth reassurance that they are important, that they are worthy, and that they can, and will, become extraordinary adults.
“The first few weeks at Jordan House a few of the youth often asked if I was coming back the next week,” she explained. ”Being aware that there are people who genuinely want to be there with them holds deep value in building strong relationships and friendships.”
“The courage they have is remarkable. They truly do inspire me.”
Ranch Ehrlo Society is always looking for volunteers to join our team and enhance the lives of our clients. We have volunteer positions available for students, young professionals, and those who are leaders in their fields. Positions are available on an event, seasonal and year-round basis depending on your interests and abilities.
Volunteering allows you to contribute to the lives of children, youth and families; to acquire job skills; create friendships; establish connections within your community; learn about and from other cultures; fulfill educational requirements for your field of study, and more.
