It’s been three months now that I’ve been working at Ranch Ehrlo Society. I had a lot of questions coming to the Ranch, which I’m sure a lot of youth and families can relate to. Over the last two months I’ve started to uncover some answers. I’ve learned a lot through listening and learning my way through unpredictable days at the Ranch; from interviews with senior management and former youth to property tours and youth interaction.
Who is Ranch Ehrlo Society?
Ranch Ehrlo Society has many identities. It is made up of hundreds of faces, dozens of programs, and decades of history.
Ranch Ehrlo Society is a non-profit agency. We work toward the well-being, health and happiness of children, youth, adults and families.
Ranch Ehrlo Society is staff. We are counsellors, therapists, teachers, mentors, house mothers, and more. We can be a shoulder to cry on or a helping hand. We help you discover who you are. We may not always give you what you want, but we’ll always give you what is best. The staff who work at Ranch Ehrlo work here because they want to make a difference.
Ranch Ehrlo Society is community. If there were no youth, there would be no Ranch. The youth that come here are different ages, different nationalities, and all come from different backgrounds. Some are boys, and some are girls. Some speak English, and some speak Dene. Some youth come from Saskatchewan, while others come from across Canada. Ranch Ehrlo works with day students, group home residents, people with developmental disabilities, and adults and families who need guidance.
What does Ranch Ehrlo Society do?
We do a lot. We offer counselling. We offer housing. We offer education. We offer assisted living. We offer foster care. We offer family treatment. We offer free sport. But most importantly, we offer people the opportunity to be empowered. Ranch Ehrlo helps people begin to discover, understand and accept who they are and who they want to become.
What makes Ranch Ehrlo Society special?
The people make Ranch Ehrlo special. It’s the enthusiasm and celebration of a teacher’s commandment of student achievement; it’s the glowing smile of a youth as she straps on her helmet and rollerblades; it’s the voice of a former Ranch youth telling her story of success; and it’s the hope of a youth care leader who had a big break-through.
Each person makes Ranch Ehrlo special because in some way we each contribute to, and celebrate, the growth of one another. Ranch Ehrlo Society (as an agency, staff, and community) has hope in people when they may not have hope in themselves.
