Faces of the Ranch: Kate Langen

In celebration of Ranch Ehrlo’s 60th anniversary, we are reflecting on the people who make our work possible each day – introducing you to individuals who have grown alongside us and who carry our mission forward. Our summer series will introduce audiences to the people who have helped shape the legacy that defines Ranch Ehrlo (link to introductory story). To begin the series, we start where the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. We will introduce Kate Langen, director of the Treatment Foster Care program at Ranch Ehrlo, and daughter of the organization’s founder, the late Dr. Geoff Pawson.

Introducing the "Faces of the Ranch"

Ranch Ehrlo Society is celebrating 60 years of innovation, growth, and an unwavering commitment to supporting individuals, families, and communities. What first began in 1966 as a single group living program in Pilot Butte has expanded to become a multi-service agency that has programs and campuses in southern Saskatchewan and in and around Saskatoon and Prince Albert. As we mark this incredible milestone, we invite you to become acquainted with our work and the people who make it possible.

How Eric's dream brought teams together

Andrea Nicholl

Person-centred care is about listening to what matters most to someone and then finding a way to make it happen. Sometimes, that means rethinking routines, bridging programs, and going beyond what’s typical. A participant in the Supported Living Program inspired staff at Ranch Ehrlo to do just that, making his dream become a reality.

Seeing foster care through a birth parent's eyes

Andrea Nicholl

Recently, Treatment Foster Care families participated in a group training session that offered a powerful and unique perspective from a birth mother who experienced having her children in foster care and later achieved successful reunification. Martine Ahenakew has shared her story publicly before, but in this smaller setting, she connected with foster families on a deeper level – helping them better understand the thoughts and emotions birth parents experience when separated from their children.

Winter camp for Welke House

Andrea Nicholl

Corman Park’s Welke House loaded up their van again this year, with their navigation set for Echo Lake, located in the scenic Qu’Appelle Valley some 70 kilometres east of Regina. The campground is well maintained and remains a popular winter destination, serving as a seasonal hub for outdoor enthusiasts. With heated yurts to keep campers warm and a variety of nearby outdoor recreational activities available, it offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy the winter months. This was the second year Welke House has embarked on a winter camp – and it certainly won’t be the last.
