The children at EELC Imperial have been very busy over the past couple of weeks.

Learning about Aboriginal culture

We have been learning about the First Nations culture through our cultural showcase. We had the pleasure of having Fynlie Hammer come and dance for us. Fynlie is a member of the Ranch Ehrlo Powwow Club and attends EELC W.F Ready.

She visited us one morning and brought her beautiful jingle dress that an elder had made for her. She also performed a powwow dance for us.  The children loved watching her dance and some were even able to try on her dress to see how it jingles.

highfive with a firefighterThe children have also been brushing up on their fire safety this month! We have been learning about fire prevention, how to keep ourselves safe if there is a fire, and how to escape if a fire occurs.

Riding in the firetruck

Even with all the knowledge that they have learned, the children really wanted to meet and talk with some firefighters from our community. We were able to set up a visit one morning and have a group of firefighters come in to talk to us about the importance of knowing what to do if there was a fire in our home or at school. They showed us their gear which keeps them safe when entering a fire, as well let us take a look in their fascinating fire truck. We were provided with a hands on experience to see the tools that can save us. The children really loved meeting our community firefighters!
