On June 21, National Indigenous Peoples Day in Canada, celebrations were held far and wide. In Regina, the biggest was held at Victoria Park, and our Imperial Park EELC children got the opportunity to take part.

Arriving just after 10 a.m., the children watched the powwow performance before heading to the Kid Zone where they got their faces painted and played some Inuit games that were set up. Their interest was piqued by the community displays, so next they checked out the fire trucks and police car on site.

The children then had some free play time at the play structure before a picnic lunch of bannock, bullet soup (a Metis traditional dish), orange slices, and granola bars. Once their tummies were full, the kids spent some time at the craft area set up in the park, making pipe cleaner dream catchers. They wrapped up the day by visiting a teepee.

“The kids had a blast and it was a fabulous day! There were so many nice people and tons of helpers on every corner seeing if you needed anything,” said Faron Potts, Imperial EELC supervisor. “The kids were pumped to get free frisbees and tattoos as well!”
